The perfect nursery usually starts with the perfect baby crib bedding. The nursery is all planned out. You’ve chosen the crib, the rug, the stuffed animals, even the light-switch covers… but have you forgotten something? It’s very important to choose the right crib bedding, so make sure you have considered these things before you buy:

- Choose cotton flannels or knits (or wovens with a high thread count), but make sure they’re not blends - go for 100% cotton. This is to ensure that the bedding is both soft and breathable.

- Caring for a new baby is very time-consuming and you won’t have time for spot treatments or dry cleaning - so make sure you buy a bedding set that you can wash in the machine!

- To ensure the safety of your baby, makes sure that your crib bedding fits the crib mattress tightly. If you are worried about the fit of your sheets, you can buy elastic straps that clip onto the crib sheet (under the mattress) and hold it in place.

- While you will definitely need bedding for your crib, you do not necessarily need a set. You should realize that items commonly included in a bedding set (like bumper pads and comforters) are not recommended for very young babies. So if you are trying to save money, consider buying individual pieces rather than a full bedding set. Many people buy bedding sets because all the pieces coordinate, but buying separates can reward those with creativity.

- Now you should think about the decor. Coordinate your bedding with the style and colors of the room and its furniture.

Plan for the long term when buying your bedding. By using a convertible crib or a toddler bed that takes standard-sized crib sheets, you can continue to use your bedding for several years. If you’re just starting your family and think you might have more children, try a gender neutral crib set like the Vintage bedding set, so that you can use it again.
